Social & Emotional Wellness

Two hands interlocked by fingers

Social & Emotional Wellness at HPW:

Our goal is to build a campus culture where healthy relationships thrive and supportive communities improve well-being and college success.

We do this by:

  • Increasing access and opportunities for our student communities to practice social connectedness, inclusion, and belonging
  • Enhancing social and emotional skills of our student communities for interpersonal, academic, mental, and professional well-being
  • Enhancing the ability of our staff and faculty communities to model healthy relationships skills that strengthen their capacity to create supportive environments

What is Social Wellness?

Social Wellness involves having healthy relationships with friends, family, and the community, and having an interest in and concern for the needs of others and humankind.

What is Emotional Wellness?

Emotional wellness is the ability to express feelings, adjust to emotional challenges, cope with life’s stressors, and enjoy life. It includes knowing our strengths as well as what we want to get better at and living and working on our own but letting others help us from time to time.

Need help… asking for help? It’s easier said than done. In this workshop, we’ll discuss why asking for help is vital for our health, well-being, and success in college and life. We’ll identify barriers that keep us from asking for help and strategies to overcome them, as well as tips on what we can do to be helpful when others reach out to us for our support.

Trust is essential for our individual well-being and all kinds of relationships in our lives. But what is trust? How do you know you have it? What is it like when you lose it? Learn how trust is built, what breaks it, and steps to start repairing it.

College is a challenging time that demands so much of us, and it can be overwhelming to know who or where to turn to for support. Join us as we practice mapping our sources of support while learning basic skills to strengthen and maintain relationships that matter for our health, well-being, and success.

Join a supportive Men Of Color community working together towards our collective health, wellness, and college success! Through our weekly discussions and workshops, we build and practice the skills to grow strong relationships that matter to us—all while deepening our understanding of what it means to be a Man Of Color in college today, the importance of emotions and healthy communication, and how a strong network of support can get us to the finish line!
